Why do we need music?

In my opinion, music is one of the most important things in the world. Music enjoys people, unites people and often causes emotions to the audience. Music, for many people, is a way to express themselves. People can tell others about their joy or sadness in life in songs. In this way it also unites allot of people as music is a language without boundaries. We speak this language all over the world and we have all applied our own dialects in a way. This dialect divines the people and their personal opinion of music as a form of culture. For example the style of music that originates Africa is totally different from the music that originates Australia, we hear this difference clearly but we understand each other at the same time. Also music is often used to add a certain atmosphere or emotion to a setting. Take for example movies: image watching an action scene in James Bond with no exciting tune on the background. Or Romeo and Juliet with no emotional songs, this will totally take away the romance of it all. Without music, this world would be a quite place. No music on the radio in traffic jams, no iPods, very little emotion in movies and it would defiantly take away a world language, a language that most of the people on this planet understand.

My experience in music

For my whole life I have always loved music. I listen music on my Ipod in the car, when I come home from school, before sleeping and when driving my bycicle. However, I have experienced first hand that it is way more easy to listen to music, than to actually compose and play music. I always had the dream of being able to play the music that I have on my Ipod on the piano instantly. Therefore I have followed two years of piano lessons. However in these two years I have concluded that I miss the patients needed to study a song before you can actually play the song flawlessly. I didn't study enough and progression was slow. This conclusion has led to the fact that I stopped following lessons for the piano after only two years. Now I play piano often just at home and I study only the songs that I really like at my own tempo. This said it can take me just one week to learn a whole song but if I don't really feel like it, one song can take me more than three month. Also I like to ''freestyle'' on the piano, which means just playing what comes up in my head without any thinking involved.
